HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) – A few local service organizations are beginning the new year with some extra funds to help those they serve. Friday, Treasure Hunt and Dirt Cheap gave a total of $20,000 in donations to 3 organizations.

$5,000 was given to Christian Services. Another $5,000 went to the Southern Pines Animal Shelter and $10,000 was presented to the Domestic Abuse Family Shelter.

“This is going to go a long way toward feeding 600 people a day, both in-house, on the compassion van and through meals-on-wheels,” said Bill Prout, executive director of Christian Services.

“This is going to see us through to next year and we really appreciate it,” said Becky Sims, executive director of the Domestic Abuse Family Shelter.

“We are just absolutely thrilled with this and we certainly will make good use of it,” said Dr. Gail Foreman, executive director of the Southern Pines Animal Shelter.

Treasure Hunt and Dirt Cheap also teamed up with local law enforcement to give more than 5,000 toys to needy children in Hattiesburg on Christmas day.
